COVID-19 Resurgence Wage Subsidy
The COVID-19 Resurgence Wage Subsidy was to help businesses pay their staff affected by COVID-19. It was available from 21 August 2020 to 3 September 2020.
The information on this page is a summary of the key details about this payment. Detailed information can be found in the declaration at the bottom of this page.
Who could get it
This payment was available to employers and self-employed people. Their business must have had at least a 40% drop in revenue because of COVID-19 over a 14 day period between 12 August and 10 September 2020, compared to a similar period in 2019.
State Sector organisations were generally not eligible to get the COVID-19 Resurgence Wage Subsidy, however some may have been granted an exception.
Payment rates
The COVID-19 Resurgence Wage Subsidy was for 2 weeks from the day an application was submitted. It was paid as a lump-sum of either:
- $585.80 for full-time employees (20 hours or more a week), or
- $350.00 for part-time employees (less than 20 hours a week).
If the employee's usual wages were were less than the subsidy rate, any difference should have been used to pay the wages of other affected staff. If there were no other employees to use the subsidy for affected staff, the remaining amount must have been repaid back.
Paying your staff
The business must have made an effort to pay the employee named in the application at least 80% of their usual wages while getting the wage subsidy for them. If that wasn't possible, at least the subsidy rate needed to be paid.
Declaration
The declaration contains the full eligibility criteria, obligations and repayment responsibilities for the COVID-19 Resurgence Wage Subsidy.
